A message about Confirmation: from Anthony Dove
I decided that I would like to get confirmed last year. There were many reasons for my decision but the most prominent reason was that for the first time in my life I felt myself ready to progress in my faith. I spoke to our Vicar, Rev. Alan Bartlett, about this and a month later I was invited to share a course for confirmation candidates. The course was about ten weeks long at St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Belmont. I attended this course every Sunday afternoon supported by my mother. During the course myself and five other candidates studied different aspects of Christian life. These included subjects such as the Holy Trinity, the Bible, and the importance of the Church today. This course then assured that I was ready for the next step on my Christian journey. On November 19th, 2009, I was confirmed into the Christian Church by Bishop Mark of Jarrow, in Durham Cathedral. This ceremony included being blessed and anointed with oil, and I was presented with a small wooden cross. My parents, siblings and other relatives, as well as Rev. Alan, Rev. Eileen and Rev. Di were all there to support me. I was given a lovely present of a modern day Bible from the Church. This was the most spiritual moment of my life, and I felt closer to God than I have ever felt.
